Starship IKAREE — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 October 2026

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

This policy explains what personal data the game Starship IKAREE ("the Game") collects, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to the Game on Meta Quest devices, its servers and its official support channels.

The data controller is Lubomír Budin – ProBudin, a sole trader registered in the Czech Republic, company ID (IČO) 08506990, Brno, Czech Republic. Contact: lubomirbudin@gmail.com.

Your use of the Game is also governed by Meta's own terms and privacy policy, which cover what Meta collects through its platform and store. This policy covers only what we, the developer, process.

In short:

2. What data we collect and why

Data Where it comes from Why we use it Legal basis (GDPR) How long we keep it
Meta user ID (app-scoped) and display name Meta platform, when you start the Game identify your save data, check what you own contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) until you ask us to delete it, or 12 months of inactivity
Entitlements: subscription status, Weekend Pass time remaining Meta platform + our server unlock content you paid for contract while your access lasts, then 90 days
Voice audio your microphone, only while the communicator button is held convert your orders to text contract not stored by us; sent to the speech-to-text provider and discarded after processing
Transcripts of your orders and the crew's replies generated during play run the crew's responses; investigate errors and abuse contract; legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) 30 days in logs
Save data: progress, choices, captain's log, crew memory generated during play continue the story across episodes contract until you delete it, or 12 months of inactivity
Usage and cost measurements (minutes of speech, AI tokens, voice characters) our server keep the service affordable, apply fair-use limits legitimate interest 13 months
Technical data: IP address, device model, app version, error reports your device and our server security, fixing bugs legitimate interest 30 days
Support messages and e-mail address you, when you contact us answer your request legitimate interest 24 months after the request is closed

After you delete your data we keep one record for 12 months: the amount of AI processing used in your current billing periods, stored under a one-way pseudonymous key derived from your Meta account ID, with no name, voice, transcript or save data. It exists only so that deleting and re-creating an account cannot be used to bypass fair-use limits (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f)).

We don't collect your real name, payment card details, precise location, contacts, camera images or room scans. Payments are handled entirely by Meta; we only receive confirmation of what you bought.

3. Voice, microphone and AI

Microphone. The Game asks for microphone permission so you can give orders by voice. It records only while you hold the communicator button and stops when you release it. You can refuse or withdraw the permission in your headset settings; basic commands remain available on the armrest panels, but the crew will not understand free speech.

You are talking to AI. The bridge crew and other characters are not real people. Their words are generated live by an AI language model and spoken by synthetic voices. Replies can be inaccurate or unexpected; they are part of a fictional story and are not advice of any kind.

How a voice order travels:

  1. Your speech is sent to a speech-to-text service, which returns text.
  2. The text, together with the current game state and a short summary of recent events, is sent to an AI language model, which writes the crew's reply and the in-game actions.
  3. The reply is sent to a text-to-speech service and played back as the officer's voice. Many common lines are pre-recorded and never leave your device.

We filter AI output for content that breaks our rules or Meta's content guidelines. Please don't say personal information (such as your full name, address or health details) to the crew: it isn't needed to play and would pass through the services below.

Service providers (processors). We share data only with providers that process it on our behalf under a data processing agreement:

Provider Purpose Data Location
Deepgram, Inc. speech-to-text and text-to-speech voice audio, text of crew replies USA
Anthropic, PBC AI language model for the crew transcripts, game state USA
Cloudflare, Inc. game server and database all data in section 2 data stored in the EU; company in the USA
Meta Platforms Technologies platform, identity, purchases user ID, entitlements as described in Meta's policy

We use these services under terms that do not allow them to use your data to train their AI models, and we configure the shortest data retention they offer. We don't use your voice or conversations to train any AI model ourselves.

4. Purchases, sharing and security

Purchases. Subscriptions and the Weekend Pass are sold through the Meta Horizon Store. Meta processes your payment; we receive only the type of purchase and its validity so we can unlock content. Refunds and cancellations are handled by Meta.

Fair use. To keep the Game affordable, our server measures how much AI processing each account uses. If usage in a billing period is very high, the crew's live voices may switch to captions and pre-recorded lines until the next period; in extreme cases the crew may stop answering free speech until the period renews. This is based only on usage, not on what you say.

No selling, no ads. We don't sell or rent personal data, don't use it for advertising and don't share it with third parties other than the providers listed above, or authorities where the law requires it.

Transfers outside the EU. Some providers are in the United States. Transfers rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Security. Data travels over encrypted connections. API keys for AI services are kept only on our server, never in the app. Access to the server is limited to the developer.

Children. The Game is not intended for children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has used the Game, contact us and we will delete the data.

5. Your rights and contact

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

Deleting your data. Use Settings → Privacy → Delete my data in the Game, or e-mail lubomirbudin@gmail.com from the address linked to your Meta account and include your in-game captain name. We delete your save data, transcripts and usage records within 30 days, except records we must keep by law and the pseudonymous usage record described in section 2. Uninstalling the Game does not delete data on our server.

We answer requests within one month.

Changes. If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the Game before they take effect.
